Wheaton is the DuPage County seat, with a walkable downtown, a Metra line, beautiful parks and one of the best-known gardens in the western suburbs.
Wheaton is about 25 miles west of Chicago and has roughly 54,000 residents. Downtown has shops, restaurants and community events such as the French Market and Wheaton's Wine & Cultural Arts Festival, and the historic Grand Theater, built in 1925, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Wheaton Park District oversees 52 parks covering more than 800 acres, including Lincoln Marsh Natural Area and Cosley Zoo. Cantigny, the former estate of Chicago Tribune owner Robert R. McCormick, offers formal gardens and two museums, and the Illinois Prairie Path runs through the city.
Most of the city is in Community Unit School District 200, with small portions in Glen Ellyn District 41 and Community Consolidated District 89. The Union Pacific West Line runs through downtown, with stops at College Avenue and West Street. Wheaton College is just east of downtown.
